Narendra Modi offers no assurance on OROP, says scheme accepted in principle but talks still on
"Our government has also not been able to implement it till now but I assure you we will stand by it. The way the talks are going on I am expecting something positive," he said.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that talks are on regarding the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme for retired defence personnel and war widows.

"The issue of One Rank One Pension came up in front on every government. Some even made small promises but the issue could not be solved," Modi said from the ramparts of the Red Fort in his Independence Day speech.

"Our government has also not been able to implement it till now but I assure you we will stand by it. The way the talks are going on I am expecting something positive," he said.

However, he gave no time limit as to when it will coming into force.

"I assure the servicemen and I am saying it under the Tricolour from the Red Fort. We have accepted OROP. Some talks are still on," he added.

Meanwhile, ex-servicemen who are protesting demanding immediate implementation of OROP at Jantar Mantar expressed dissatisfaction at his statement. Major General(Retd) Satbir Singh said, "The PM said we have accepted OROP demand, but we have been listening to this for the past 17 months. This is very unfair."
