New Delhi: An aircraft had to abort landing at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on Friday evening because a naked man was lying near the runway.
The man has been identified as 33-year-old Arun Rai from Bihar and was reportedly drunk at the time of the incident.
He was reportedly naked on the ground 50 yards inside the IGI Airport at the Samlaka taxiway that leads directly runway 29.
The air traffic controller noticed disturbance on the ground radar and sent an inspection team who found the drunk man lying in the middle of the runway
He could have been crushed by a Kingfisher flight IT 803 which was to land in about two minutes. Two others aircraft were made to wait because of the incident.
Airport authorities say he may have jumped over the perimeter wall and reached the runway.
The security breach was detected at around 1955 hrs IST on Friday.
The man was handed over to the Central Industrial Security Force and is expected to be questioned further by the Delhi Police on Saturday.
