A member of the nagar panchayat in the Raya town of Mathura was arrested after illegally stored firecrackers were allegedly seized from his house, police said on Saturday.
"Bura was arrested after different varieties of firecrackers were recovered yesterday from his house in Pattharwali Gali here," Deputy SP Rajendra Singh Yadav said.
"Firecrackers bill amounting to Rs 2.5 lakh was also recovered in the raid conducted on a tip off," Yadav said. Bura has claimed that the firecrackers belong to his nephews Muzim and Isfaq. We are searching for Muzim and Isfaq, he added.
The firecrackers were stored for sale during Diwali, Bhura told police. He has been booked under the Explosives Act, Yadav said.
"Instructions have been issued to station house officers of different police stations to conduct raids for illegally stored firecrackers," SSP Gulab Singh said.
Bhura was recently nominated as a member of the nagar panchayat by the state government.
