HYDERABAD: The mystery of the missing autorickshaws since 2009 has been cracked by the Bowenpally police on Saturday when they arrested two robbers who have been involved in theft of autorickshaws and recovered six autorickshaws worth `9 lakh from them here.  North zone deputy commissioner of police (DCP) Ch Srikanth said that on a tip-off, the Bowenpally police apprehended the two robbers Syed Ahmed Ali alias Mujju and Mohammed Zaheer Ahmed. Mujju and Zaheer are auto drivers and residents of Talab Katta. “During interrogation, the duo confessed to have robbed six autorickshaws from Bowenpally. Chilli powder sachets, hammer and iron rods which were used while they committed the offence have also been seized,” Srikanth added.  The DCP said that the duo selected and boarded new LPG or CNG autorickshaws during late hours at Alpha hotel and Secunderabad and lured the drivers into giving high auto fares to drive to Suchitra, Dairy Farm road. After a while, they stopped the auto in isolated and dark places in the pretext of attending nature calls. When the drivers stopped their vehicles, they spilled chilli powder into their eyes, injured them with iron rods, pushed them out from the autos, robbed them and fled from the spot. They will be produced before the XI Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court.
