A day after he stated that he himself will clear the garbage piled up across the city if he gets assistance of 20-odd people, Governor H R Bhardwaj on Saturday said that his statements were “symbolic” and observed that a “Governor is only a symbolic person.”
He accused the media of literally going by things.
On the sidelines of a programme, when the reporters questioned on his discretionary powers as a Governor, Bhardwaj said “Those times are gone. I am not judiciary”.
When reporters pointed out that things pertaining to the garbage have not changed much, the Governor, without mentioning any names, said, “They (officials) have promised to take immediate steps.”
He indirectly said that he cannot do anything more.
On a specific question raised by Express, on whether he is in favour of superseding the BBMP like the Belgaum City Corporation for ‘administrative lapses’ and ‘total mismanagement of garbage disposal’, the Governor said he was not in favour such a thing.
“I am not doing any such things,” he stated.
