CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has stayed the operation of an order of the Public Works Department (PWD) dated Nov 9 this year, taking back the land allotted to the Muthamizh Peravai on Durgabhai Deshmukh Road.Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar granted the injunction, while admitting and passing an interim order on the writ petition from the Perava on Friday.Senior counsel P Wilson said, following a representation from the Peravai in 2009, the then government on June 26, 2009 passed an order allotting the land to the Peravai and a lease deed was executed in September, 2009 for 30 years. After obtaining permission, it constructed a building for Rs 4 crore. While so, all of a sudden, the PWD, by an order dated November 9 this year, directed the Peravai to hand over the vacant possession of the land and building within 30 days. It was a totally arbitrary, mala fide and politically-motivated action, Wilson contended and sought to quash the Nov 9 order.
