THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: His debut film ‘The Body’ (Vucut) turned out to be a crowd puller in the 16th IFFK. And the director of the movie, Mustafa Nuri, said that it was a fascinating experience to see his movie screened in front of a packed house and the way the audience received it. “The people here really enjoy the movie and they really possess a passion towards films. This will be a great motivation to young film makers like me,” Nuri told Express.Regarding opting a story that revolves around a porn actress, the director from Turkey said that it was the best example of materialisation of our body. “We are living in a very difficult system. We have just lost connection to ourselves and are bothered about what others will think about us. We are looking for others reaction to see that our beauty is getting admired. That is the main reason behind me opting for the story of a porn actress,” he said. But in a conservative society like Turkey, it was really a challenging topic to select, said Nuri. “Turkey is a bit conservative society. So the biggest challenge in front of me was to communicate effectively with the viewers, that too with porn which was a hard way,” he said.Nuri’s film, ‘The Body,’ tells the story of Leyla, who works as a porn actress, and the relationship between individual and society within the line of the concepts such as beauty and body.Asked about his take on Indian movies, Nuri said that it was high time for the Indian movies to extend its reach to countries like Turkey. “We get chance to watch Indian films very rarely. The last Indian movie I watched was Lagaan. That was really a good experience. The Indian films should try exploring more venues. I later came to know that 'Lagaan' was a big success in box-office too. Apart from screening movies in International festivals, such quality movies from India should be released globally,” he added.Regarding the global impact of English movies, Nuri said that even in Turkey the English movies were very popular. “They always depend upon technology. The techniques such as 3D and the huge budget help them in creating movies with larger dynamism. For instance, Transformers 3 was a huge hit. But apart from the 3D and visual effects, what is there new in the concept?” asks Nuri.He said that treating lighter subjects again and again was like having same menu for dinner every night. “Be it Hollywood or Bollywood, new ideas and new perspectives are the key. Otherwise we will not be able to deliver good cinema,” Nuri said.
