Mumbai: A 42-year-old man who has spent most of his life sweeping hospital floors in Mumbai said on Tuesday he hoped a Rs 2.09 crore lottery jackpot win would make life easier but that he wouldn't be laying down his broom.
"The first thing I will do is buy a house for my wife," Girish Rathod, who will not quit his job at a state-run hospital in Mumbai, said after accepting the prize. "I want my children to have good education and lead a better life than what my wife and I have led so far."
For a man who until now lived in a 180 sq. ft rented room with his wife and three children, Rathod has accountants queuing up to advise him on how he should invest his fortune. But even before buying a house, he wants to return about Rs 2,000 in loans taken from friends and colleagues.
"I also plan to start my own business and donate some amount to my native place," he said, adding that his newfound wealth had also brought him respect from his relatives and friends.
The Super Lotto jackpot rolled over for five months until Rathod chose the magical numbers.
