Unperturbed by controversies over his alleged role in the Muzaffarnagar riots, Uttar Pradesh minister Azam Khan on Thursday exuded confidence that he would not be abandoned by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav.
"I know Mulayam can never leave me. He needs my loyality...he cannot leave me," Khan told reporters at a function in Lucknow. On being asked about his alleged role in Muzaffarnagar riots, the minister said that he had nothing to do with it.
On Wednesday, the Allahabad High Court had issued notice to Khan seeking his reply on charges that he had pressed for the release of 7 persons named in the murder of Jat youths in Muzaffarnagar riots.
When reporters asked him about the notice, the minister said that he would clarify his stand in the court. In reply to a question, Khan alleged that Congress always worked against Dalits and backwards and asked the party why it failed to project even a single Dalit leader.
