Mulayam gives out sops ahead of polls
Mulayam has raised the annual constituency fund from Rs 10 lakh to Rs12.5 lakh for UP legislators.

Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav on Friday announced a big sop for the state's legislators raising the annual constituency fund from Rs 10 lakh to Rs12.5 lakh.

The move is seen as a blatant appeasement of all legislators ahead of the Assembly polls early next year. The state has 403 members in the Legislative Assembly and 100 members in the Legislative Council.

Meanwhile, Assembly speaker Mata Prasad Pandey adjourned the Assembly sine die. It may now meet only after next year's polls.

It was Yadav's second such decision in his three-year stint in office. He had raised the constituency fund from Rs 7.5 lakh to Rs10 lakh in 2004.

The Chief Minister's announcement came on a demand made by Congress Legislature Party leader Pramod Tiwari, who is a diehard critic of the Chief Minister.

And there was rare bonhomie between them after the announcement.
