Come September 17, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will turn 74. All eyes are on how he will celebrate his day. Sources have indicated it will be a working day as every birthday of the Prime Minister, but this time he will spend time in three cities. The choice of the cities has garnered particular interest.
KASHI, BHUBANESHWAR & NAGPUR — ALL IN A DAY
The Prime Minister will start his day at his Lok Sabha constituency Varanasi, better known as Kashi. He is expected to offer prayers at Kashi’s famous Vishwanath Temple and set the tone for the day. While it is still unclear whether he will take a holy dip in the Ganga or not, it is more or less certain that one would witness him in his religious avatar, in the morning.
In the afternoon, he will land in the newest BJP-ruled state — Odisha. He will be in the temple city of Bhubaneshwar where he will hand over the first tranche of the Subhadra scheme to women. Over 1 crore women of Odisha between 21 and 60 years of age are expected to get annual assistance of Rs 10,000 over the next five years under the Subhadra Yojana beginning from September 17 — Modi’s birthday. The scheme is named after Subhadra — the sister of lord Jagannath.
The plan so far suggests Prime Minister will end his birthday at Nagpur — home to RSS headquarters. The last PM Modi visited Nagpur was in April during Lok Sabha campaigning in Ramtek seat. This will be his first visit to the city in Modi 3.0. This time, PM Modi is scheduled to take a pitstop in Nagpur before leaving for Wardha where he is all set to inaugurate the program organised by MSMEs to mark one year of the PM Vishwakarma Yojna. The scheme was launched on his birthday last year.
There’s no clarity on whether he will visit the RSS headquarters.
BJP’s PLANS FOR PM MODI’S BIRTHDAY
Like each year, the BJP will mark the fortnight starting with PM Modi’s birthday as ‘seva pakhwara’ or ‘seva parv’. On his birthday and beyond, the BJP has organised a nationwide blood donation camp in association with the Indian Red Cross Society. Such camps are organised each year by the party in this week of September. But BJP’s celebration doesn’t stop the next day.
The Party, September 18 onwards, will undertake a cleanliness drive in hospitals and schools. Both the blood donation camps and cleanliness drives will be done down to the district level and photos of these will have to be shared with the party as evidence, as is the norm every year. Recently, News18 reported how India’s Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) may have contributed to averting 60,000–70,000 infant deaths annually, as per a study published in the prestigious international science journal Nature.
On September 23, each assembly constituency of India will witness free health check-up camps for women, who are also senior citizens. There are a total of 4,123 assembly seats across India.
The BJP has asked state leadership to honour India’s Paralympic squad, not just the medal winners during the ‘seva pakhwara’. The Party which touched the 2 crore mark on Tuesday has also smartly made the membership drive a part of this fortnight where each BJP cadre is tasked to enroll 100 individuals as BJP members during this period. The celebration fortnight ends with Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, which the BJP will observe down to the mandal level.
