BANGALORE: As the number of cyber crime cases being registered is on the rise, the state police is contemplating extending cyber crime police stations to other parts of the state in order to tackle cyber crimes effectively. In a recent meeting of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), it was decided to establish CCPS and cyber labs in all states, including Union Territories, to curb cyber crimes. It had also earmarked a budget of Rs149.86 crore to execute this project. In the meeting that was attended by Home Secretaries and DGPs of all states, it was decided to launch the project to assist state governments to build adequate capacity and technical expertise to handle these crimes. A senior police official said that following the decision taken in the meeting, top brass of the state police are seriously considering setting up some more CCPS in other districts of the state. “As of now, there is only one CCPS in the state and nearly 150 cases are being registered every year. In spite of training the policemen, and even though cases are being registered at the police station levels, it has been observed that something has to be done to tackle cyber crimes because they will keep increasing in the coming years. Hence, there are plans to establish CCPS in some places,” the officer explained. When contacted, DGP of the Criminal Investigation Department, Rupak Kumar Datta told Express , “There are plans to set up CCPS at Mysore, Mangalore, Belgaum, among others. These will be handled only by CID sleuths. However, we are yet to finalise the plan before sending a proposal to the government.”
