A man was hacked by a group of persons in Paravoor on Tuesday morning. According to the police, Nazar, 52, of Vannikadu, Vedimara, claimed that his relatives Shihab and Ayoob were behind the attack.
North Paravoor Circle Inspector Abdul Salam said that the incident occurred around 6.30 am, when Nazar was returning home from a mosque.
The gang came on two bikes, cornered him and hacked him. One of them struck his leg with an iron rod. Then they fled from the scene.
After the incident, Nazar called the police and they rushed him to the hospital. A surgery was immediately performed on Nazar.
One of his legs was found broken, and doctors recommended another surgery. Nazar told the police that he had once publicly teased Shihab and it might have led to the attack.
The police officials said that Shihab and his accomplices are PFI activists. “They waited for an opportunity to corner Nazar when he was alone and attacked him over personal vengeance,” said Abdul Salam said.
The police are on the search for Shihab and Ayoob who are still at large. Another person who was part of the gang was arrested.
A case has been filed in this regard. Nazar is a businessman who had recently started a hotel at Vedimara.
