The victim, Mohammed Mushtaq, a native of Jammu and Kashmir, had come to the Capital on January 2 to book a ticket for Saudi Arabia. For that Mushtaq had gone to Saudi Arabia airline office located on the second floor of Ansal Bhawan at KG Marg.
As he walked into the building carrying a bag containing Rs 35,000 in cash, he was stopped by two persons in police uniforms. They told him that they needed to check his bag as it was mandatory for all those entering the building, said a police source.
The unsuspecting Mushtaq handed them the bag. "They then took away the bag and replaced the cash with paper cut in size of the currency. By the time Mushtaq realised that his cash was stolen, the duo had vanished. He then approached the police," said a senior police official.
