Malegaon: A total of Rs 62 lakh has been disbursed by the Maharashtra government as compensation to the victims of last week's serial blasts, a top official said on Tuesday.
Nashik District Collector P Chockalingam said the Centre has also promised a relief package similar to the one given by the state.
Speaking to the reporters, Chockalingam said the state government had also written to all the private hospitals in the textile town asking them not to charge the patients injured in the explosions and also assured them that the government will refund the money.
Thirty-one people were killed and nearly 300 injured in four blasts in Malegaon on Friday.
The Centre will give a compensation of Rs 1 lakh for the next of kin of the dead and Rs 50,000 for the injured people and the state government has already forwarded a list of
beneficiaries, the collector said.
Giving a break-up of the amount disbursed by the state government, Chockalingam said that Rs one lakh each was given to the next of kin of 22 victims who died in the blasts while 78 seriously injured have been given a compensation of Rs 39 lakh and 22 people with minor injuries have been paid Rs 5,000 each.
