THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Sri Sathya Sai Orphanage Trust has formed a Foundation to popularise the poems of P Kunjiraman Nair among the youth. The Foundation will be set up at Sai Gramam, Thonnackal. Speaking at a press conference here on Monday, M V Devan, chairman of the Foundation, said that the initiative is a tribute to P Kunjiraman Nair and his ardent love for nature. ‘’Like his home town Kanhangad, Thiruvananthapuram was also close to him for being his main centre of literary pursuits. Through this Foundation, we wish to build up a generation who could shower love and care on nature as ‘P’ did. His pen was a gushing cascade of natural imageries, be it in poetry or prose,’’ said Devan. The Foundation aims to encourage Malayalam language and literature and honour literary and cultural figures. The Foundation will also institute awards in the name of the poet, provide financial assistance to financially backward students who opt to study Malayalam language and will conduct seminars, literary camps and literary meetings. Besides, the Foundation will also provide assistance to hapless artists and the like. K N Anandakumar is the general secretary and M Chandraprakash is the general convenor of the Foundation. Raveendran, son of the poet, K C Joseph, Minister for Cultural Affairs, M R Thamban, Director State Institute of Languages and K Satchidanandan, poet, are the patrons of the Foundation.
