In connection with the murder case of KAS officer and Deputy Director with Directorate of Cooperative Audit S P Mahantesh, the Central Crime Branch (CCB) police filed chargesheet in the 1st ACMM Court on Friday.
The police mentioned that probing into the irregularities at Sahakaranagar Credit Co-operative Society led to Mahantesh’s murder.
In the 395-page long charge-sheet, the police levelled murder charges against Kiran Kumar alias Kiran, 23, the cashier of the society and his associates Aiyappa, 24, a cab driver, Murali, 29, an auto driver and Shivakumar, 28.
“Kiran had misused the funds of the society.
After Mahantesh began auditing the papers of the society Kiran feared that the irregularities would come to light.
Hence, he roped in other accused and gave them supari (contract) to kill Mahantesh,” stated the charge sheet.
Further, the police have stated that after Mahantesh’s murder, the police had recruited auditors from other districts for the society.
“The auditing revealed that there was misappropriation of funds to the tune of `2 crore.
Thus a separate investigation will be launched to probe the irregularities.
” At present, all the four accused are in judicial custody and the police mentioned in the charge sheet that they would take one of the accused to the custody for further interrogation.
It may be recalled that Mahantesh was attacked by unidentified assailants near Atria Hotel on Palace Road on May 15 night while he was going to his Vittal Nagar residence.
He was admitted to Mallige Hospital the same night where he succumbed on May 20.
The killers had tailed him from Sahakaranagar Credit Co-operative Society in a car and had stopped his car near Atria Hotel, where they attacked him with cricket stumps before fleeing the scene
