Ludhiana: In a ghastly incident, a 17-year-old rape victim was allegedly set ablaze by six men in Punjab's Ludhiana on Thursday for filing a police complaint against them. Police have arrested two of the accused while the others continue to remain at large.
The victim has been hospitalised with 75 per cent burns and her condition is reported to be critical.
"Today when we came back home, the girl said six guys came and raped her, she identified the guys, she knew four of them and two were new to her. She said they threw kerosene on her and set her on fire. We want justice," said the victim's father.
The girl had filed a case of rape against three of the accused two months back. The three were arrested and had walked out of jail just a week ago.
The family has accused the local police of taking bribe. "We had gone to the court, our son went to school and our daughter after all her work went for a bath. Six men came and poured kerosene and set her on fire saying if you don't live, the case won't go on. They set her on fire and ran away. How can we appeal? The policemen have taken bribe and done this to our child. This wouldn't have happened had the police listened to us," the weeping mother said.
"Three people were arrested and they were on bail, this event happened today and we have arrested 2 people in this case and rest will be arrested will be very soon. Police department is on the job," said Ludhiana CP Pramod Ban.
