The incident took place on October 1 in Lucknow's Gomti Nagar area when the accused shot at the Apple store manager after he allegedly refused to stop his car.

Lucknow: A report by the Special Investigation Team of UP police probing the murder of Apple-employee Vivek Tiwari has suggested that the accused constable Prashant Chowdhary opened fire at him without any provocation.

The incident took place on October 1 in Lucknow's Gomti Nagar area. The accused shot at the Apple store manager, who was in an SUV, after he allegedly refused to stop his car.

The report by the SIT, led by IG (Rang) Sujeet Pandey, was submitted to theDGP in Lucknow on Wednesday. According to Pandey, the murder took place in the spur of the moment and was not premediated.

Constable Chowdhary had claimed that he had opened fire on Tiwari when he refused to stop his car. But the SIT report says, Tiwari was trying to leave the spot when he was intercepted by the police and hit the patrol motorcycle.

Meanwhile, Sandeep Kumar, the constable accompanying Chowdhary, has been given a clean chit in the murder, but was chargesheeted under Section 323 of the IPC for voluntarily causing hurt to Tiwari’s colleague Sana Khan who was also in the vehicle.

The SIT report also recommends action against the Gomti Nagar SHO D T Tiwari, and Circle Officer Chakresh Mishra for lapses.

Following the incident, several political leaders, including Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, met the deceased’s family who put across their demands for swift justice and compensation.
