A local Congress leader was seriously injured after two unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants allegedly opened fire on him in Anar Patti village in Barabanki, police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Monday when Munir Khan (50) had gone to the market and the two miscreants fired at him from behind, and fled form the scene, police said.
Khan was rushed to the primary health centre from where he was referred to Trauma Centre in Lucknow for further treatment, they said.
Khan is an active member of the Congress and had also contested Assembly election in the past.
