While a decision in this regard was taken last year, no work on the proposed campus has been started till date and a part of the money required for the purpose was sanctioned only a month back.The decision to set up an exclusive campus for the college was taken in the wake of bifurcation from the BJB Autonomous College after the State Government decided to delink Plus II from degree colleges. At present, the existing Arts block of the college has been demarcated for the junior college with the main administrative block retained for the BJB Autonomous College.As per the proposal, a seven-storey building would be constructed on the Arts block premises for the Junior College. The College officials had in April last year submitted requirements for the new building to the chief architect through the Roads and Buildings (R&D) Department and, accordingly, a seven-storey model was approved. Costing ` 6 crore, the building would be equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, including ultra-modern library, well equipped laboratories, separate classrooms and examination halls, a hi-tech auditorium and common rooms for staff and students.BJB Junior College Principal Shuvada Mohanty said the State Government’s sanction letter of ` 4 crore to carry out the first phase work was received by the college administration only last month. “We have also received the Government’s approval letter for the master plan of the proposed building for the Junior College,” she added. Sources said the work has been delayed due to numerous changes in the building’s master plan and government’s apathy in initiating the work. This despite the fact that there is an acute shortage of infrastructure in the college. The BJB College was set up in 1957.While the Commerce and Science streams are housed in the old building, the Arts wing functions from the new building. This apart, there is a severe shortage of hostel accommodation on the campus for both girls and boys. “Although the State Government had planned to complete construction work of the campus in three to four years, one year has already passed without any progress.
