Leopard captured from Bengaluru school escapes from Bannerghatta Biological Park

The leopard that had entered a Bengaluru school and attacked some people on February 7 escaped from the Bannerghatta Biological Park on Sunday night and reportedly vanished into the nearby forest. Bannerghatta Biological Park officials says they found the leopard missing on Monday morning. They say the there are chances that the big cat is in the park itself, which is spread over 270 sq km.

The animal had entered the Vibgyor school campus on the outskirts of Bengaluru on February 7. Four people were attacked and injured by the leopard.

The feline was first spotted by CCTV cameras inside Vibgyor School following which School authorities immediately informed forest officials and police who rushed to the spot.

The leopard had escaped from the school premises during the day and was reportedly hiding in the nearby bushes.

Just days after the incident, the Karnataka government on February 11 asked all schools in the city to remain closed in the wake of the leopard scare. The government asked as many as 130 schools to remain closed for a day as a precautionary measure.

A day earlier, there were reports of locals sighting another leopard in the vicinity of Vibgyor school.
