CHENNAI: Former DMK minister N K K P Raja and three others, arrested on August four on various charges, including land grabbing, were today granted bail by the Madras High court.Justice T Sudangthiram granted bail "considering the facts and circumstances and (that) further incarceration is not necessary."He directed them to furnish personal bonds for Rs 20,000 each with two sureties each for like amounts to satisfaction of Erode Judicial Magistrate. He also ordered them to stay at Tiruchirappalli and report daily to a Judicial magistrate there.Raja, party's Erode district secretary, Erode Mayor K Kumar Muruges and two others have been charged under various IPC sections including 120-b(criminal conspiracy) and 420 cheating, the Tamil Nadu Probhibition of Charging Exorbitant Interest Act and Tamil Nadu Property (Prevention of Damage and Loss) Act.According to the complainant, P C Ramaswamy,he had borrowed Rs six lakh from one of the accused V C Balasubramaniam.Since he could not pay the interest regularly,Balasubramaniam allegedly obtained a sale deed forcibly in respect of two acres. He said the accused also gave an undertaking that if he paid back the amount he could reclaim the land.Ramaswamy alleged that Balasubramanian demanded Rs 1.5 crore and threatened to sell the land to Raja if the amount was not paid.He had lodged his complaint last month with the special land grabbing cell set up by the Jayalalithaa government.
