BANGALORE: The retired officers, employees and spouses of Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) made a demand to the Government of Karnataka to issue an integrated identity card so as to avail concessional travel and medical facilities. The concessional travel facilities should include providing the retired employee and spouse to travel free of cost in the city, suburban, ordinary and Metro Express services. They even demanded 50 per cent concession in ticket fare for both the employee and spouse to travel in Karnataka round the year any number of times. They recommended KSRTC Medical Scheme which should make the retired employees along with spouses eligible for medical treatment in KSRTC dispensaries and hospital on par with service employees and also providing specialist treatment at other hospitals subjected to a maximum of Rs1 lakh each or two lakh between both of them during the lifetime. In the event of death of retired officer/employee, the spouse will continue to avail the benefit during his/her lifetime. The salary of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) contract employees were revised as per Notification No.6, dated 18.08.2009 of Commissioner of Labour, published in the Andhra Pradesh Gazette for unskilled, semi-skilled and skilled workers. KSRTC employees demanded that the same revision of wages should be ensured by the Unit Officers in Karnataka. They made a protest this year on April 11 near Freedom Park, pressing for their demands from the Government of Karnataka to provide them all the facilities and equal status enjoyed by their counterparts in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra. The government assured them that their demands will be fulfilled within one month but are still pending. So they made a final notification to the government that if their demands are not met by August 11, they will carry out their agitation and hunger strike in the city.
