BANGALORE: As many as 40 trees were cut at the Water Tank Junction in Koramangala on Saturday.“We were assured at a meeting with the Chief Minister that no trees will be cut for the signal-free corridor project between Sirsi Circle and Agara. An independent committee was set up and the case is subjudice. But what has happened here, some people have cut the trees,” Nitin, a member of                  a Residents’ Welfare  Association at Kormangala, who claimed he had witnessed the cutting of 40 trees said.The residents earlier had approached the High Court in this regard and the matter will come up for hearing on May 29.The residents approached the BDA chief engineer to seek explanation in this matter but the official claimed that he was unaware of any tree cutting.“We approached the BDA officer only to hear that he is not aware of who is cutting the trees and in the evening three BBMP forest officials came and visited the site. The BBMP officials promised action,” stressed, Radha Krishna a resident.Meanwhile, the residents have planned a protest at the venue on Sunday morning to draw the attention of the BDA Commissioner Bharat Lal Meena.
