HYDERABAD: Former minister and Nalgonda MLA Komatireddy Venkata Reddy, who called off his indefinite hunger strike at the Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) here on Wednesday, was discharged from the hospital on Thursday.
While leaving the hospital, he warned that the agitation for Telangana might get out of hand if the central government did not abide by its statement made on December 9, 2009.Komatireddy, who went on an indefinite hunger strike in Nalgonda on November 1, was forcibly shifted to the NIMS by the police after his health deteriorated. He called off his fast and deeksha in deference to the appeal made by his party MPs from the region.

Speaking to mediapersons after coming out of the hospital, Komatireddy exuded confidence that the Centre would make a favourable statement on Telangana in one or two days. He claimed that he called off his stir as per his party Telangana MPs' desire. In reality, people of the region were seeking revival of an old Telangana (Hyderabad) state that had existed before its merger with Andhra in 1956. Hence no need for a second states reorganisation commission or a special package for the region. ``Till date the agitation has been peaceful and it may turn dangerous if the Centre does not stick to its earlier (Dec 9) statement on Telangana. The government and Seemandhra investors will be held responsible for all the consequences," he warned.

"I, in my individual capacity, do not care whether chief minister Kiran Kumar Reddy contacted me over phone or not to enquire about my health. But the people of the region felt sad that the chief minister was not concerned about their leader," he said.
