Arun Singh Dhumal, Avishek Dalmiya Elected in IPL Governing Council at BCCI's 93rd AGM Meet

The Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) have announced the latest updates from the recently concluded 93rd Annual General Meeting (AGM) that took place on Sunday in Bengaluru.

According to the release by the BCCI, some notable changes have been brought into several aspects. This includes the election of Arun Singh Dhumal and Avishek Dalmiya into the Indian Premier League (IPL) Governing Council.

The Indian Cricketers Association have also nominated V Chamundeswarnath who was also inducted to the IPL Governing Council as well.

Going into the financial side of things the audited accounts for the 2023-24 FY were also passed and adopted by the General Body. In addition to this, the annual budget for the 2024-25 FY was also approved.

The General Body also hailed the efforts of the people behind the work regarding the new National Cricket Academy campus which has now been renamed to the BCCI Centre of Excellence.

The members unanimously resolved to maintain BCCI’s legal status as a society. In addition, the members further resolved that the tournaments of the BCCI, including IPL, shall not be converted to a company.

IPL Announces Regulations for 2025-2027 Cycle

Earlier the IPL Governing Council had also released the mandate for franchises to adhere to for the 2025-2027 cycle which includes the player retentions, right-to-match cards, salary cap and more.

A notable change that was introduced ahead of the 2025 IPL mega-auction was that of capped Indian players who have not played an international game for the past five calendar years, being categorised as an uncapped player, thus giving franchises the option to keep the player at a lesser value than before.

Another massive change was made regarding overseas players taking part in the IPL. The overseas talents would have to put in their names for the mega-auction for them to be a part of the future auctions that would happen in the subsequent years.  Additionally, those overseas players who were picked in the auction and would not participate in the tournament would face a severe penalty where they would be banned for the following two seasons.

A major rule which was criticised by many current and former players, the Impact Player rule will also remain for the 2025-27 cycle as well.
