I think the need of the hour is to make Kittoor Rani Chennamma playground, situated at Jayanagar 3rd block, a model playground in Bangalore. Around 1,000 people visit the place for a walk. The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is spending a considerable amount for the development of this playground. To encourage sports, BBMP plans to provide amenities for sports persons at this playground. Apart from installing a synthetic track, there is a provision for a separate path for people who take a walk.Whenever any sports event is organised, the organisers pay for putting up the pandal and placing the chairs. To avoid this expenditure, the civic agency plans to construct a permanent structure here — a gallery with seating capacity of 5,000 people. There are occasions when people from other cities come to participate in sports events. To accommodate them, the BBMP plans to construct dormitories. The proposed toilets too will be on par with international stadiums. An auditorium is also in the plans. As far as Lalbagh is concerned, there is a lot to be done. It has a potential to attract more visitors. The authorities can develop the lake, install a musical fountain and provide seating facility for a few hundred people. It will be useful for people to spend their leisure time meaningfully and also enable the Horticulture Department to generate necessary revenue.During S M Krishna’s regime, the Glass House was renovated. I have not seen any development activity in recent years. If the authorities pull up their socks, Lalbagh will become a tourist destination.—as told to Y Maheswara Reddy. Pic by Nagaraja Gadekal
