New Delhi: Cricketers Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag on Thursday posted angry reactions to a video of a CRPF jawan being kicked by a protester in Kashmir, with the former asking those who wanted “azadi (freedom)” to leave the country.
For every slap on my army's Jawan lay down at least a 100 jihadi lives. Whoever wants Azadi LEAVE NOW! Kashmir is ours. #kashmirbelongs2us? Gautam Gambhir (@GautamGambhir) April 13, 2017
Anti-Indians hav forgotten dat our flag also stands 4: saffron - fire of our anger, white - shroud for jihadis, green - hatred 4 terror.? Gautam Gambhir (@GautamGambhir) April 13, 2017
Soon after Gambhir’s tweet, Sehwag said the assault on soldiers was “unacceptable”.
The cricketers’ reactions came a day after a video emerged of a CRPF jawan showing restraint and walking calmly away after being kicked in the shin by a protester during the April 9 bypoll in Srinagar. Also Read: Kicked on the Shin by a Civilian, Jawan Responds by Walking Away
In the video, a CRPF man was retreating from a polling booth in Srinagar when he was kicked in the shin by a civilian. His helmet toppled over, but he did not show any emotion and simply walked away. There are no reports if some action was taken against the protestor.
Eight people were killed and several others injured after protestors clashed with security forces while trying to stop polling in several booths during the bypoll of the Srinagar parliamentary constituency on April 9. At least 16 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) have stolen and 33 others damaged by them.
