Thiruvanathapuram: Kerala Governor P Sathasivam during his pre-budget address to the Assembly said that the major part of 2017 witnessed slanderous attacks on the secular traditions of Kerala.
He said that despite being a state with some of the best law and order indices in the country, a month-long campaign was carried out across India on certain grounds by some communal outfits against the state.
"During the past one year, there have been slanderous attacks on the secular traditions of our state. Doubts raised on our secular achievements and vilification of the law and order situation from various quarters. But the people of Kerala unitedly stood together to defend our traditions and achievements. Keralites en masse responded to this campaign featuring the hashtags,” said Sathasivam.
The Governor added that “Kerala has once again been identified as first in the country in maintenance of law and order. It tops the country in the ranking of quality life”.
“There have not been any instance of communal riot in our state," said the Governor.
He added that demonetisation and the introduction of GST in an “inappropriate manner and time has resulted in serious deceleration in the economy and mounting unemployment”.
The Governor said that the BJP and the RSS have been trying all possible ways to make inroads in the state and there have been several high decibel campaigns in the state. State BJP president Kummanam Rajasekharan also led a state-wide yatra during which slogans of "red terror" and "jihadi terror" were raised.
According to Rajasekharan, all that the Governor spoke is what the state government had to say.
"All these are against the facts. This is not the real situation on ground. Earlier the governor had said that the law and order situation is bad... This is what the government wanted to say and the Governor read out," said Rajasekharan.
