The Excise Department has started its enforcement activities to check the illicit liquor flow in the toddy shops in the district. It has started round-the-clock checking of vehicles at the national highways and opened a control room in the district.
Special attention has been given to increase the mobility of Excise wing this Onam.
“We have more vehicles and personnel deployed for enforcement activities. If anyone gives information on the sale of illicit liquor we would reach the spot within 20 minutes.
We have two units ready to reach the spot and conduct checking. The autorickshaws will not be spared, as nowadays spirit and illicit liquor are being transported in small vehicles,” K Mohanan Excise Deputy Commissioner said.
BOOKED
On Wednesday one person was booked for carrying 46 bottles of liquor in Kalady range. An Excise Department unit has been formed in every taluk to probe complaints and information from public and collect inputs from intelligence wing. It has also been decided to reward those who pass information on illicit liquor mafia.
CONTROL ROOM
The Excise Department has started the control room for public to give information of illicit liquor. Information can be passed to each range offices.
K Mohanan said the flow of spirit from other states has decreased drastically but some of the mafias are brewing liquor in the rural areas.
“Owing to intense checking in the highways and checkposts the spirit flow is very less this year.
But the major headache would be to trace the racket that operate in remote areas.
For tracking and booking these culprits the public should cooperate with us,” K Mohanan said.
