Karnataka: 'Technical glitch' stalls AICTE approval
As many as 17 colleges from the state have not received the nod from the All India Council of Technical Education.

Bangalore: If the delay in uploading the seat matrix on the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) webpage has irked the students and parents, the non approval of the top engineering colleges in the state is another setback for the Common Entrance Test rank holders. As many as 17 colleges from the state have not received the nod from the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE).

Some of the top colleges in the city have not been included in the seat matrix, as the AICTE has not approved the college for continuation.Although the reasons cited for non-approval has been purely termed as “technical glitch”, the institution managements and the government are hopeful that the colleges will be approved.

Vice-Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological Institute (VTU) H Maheshappa said, “The reason for the delay in the AICTE’s approval is due to the technical error. Last year the application for AICTE approval was made online and hence certain colleges were not approved due to the technical error. This year too, the same problem has been repeated, but the colleges can get the approval anytime.”

“The VTU and state government have made recommendations to ensure that these colleges are granted approval. The AICTE regional director has also rushed to the capital to sort out the issue,” explained Maheshappa. The VC also stated that inclusion of these seats will be possible only during the casual vacancy round of online options entry. “The approval of the 17 colleges can come anytime and students can be well assured that these seats will be included in the casual vacancy round.”
