Kapoors plan to approach the Guinness Book authority

New Delhi: With the Kapoor family giving over sixty years to Indian cinema, the daughter of legendary filmmaker Raj Kapoor, Ritu Nanda is thinking of approaching the Guinness Book authorities over the familys' contribution.

"Out of the more than 90 years of film-making in India, almost 60 years have seen the Kapoor family playing a significant role in the industry. I am seriously thinking of approaching the Guinness Book people now," said Nanda at the launch of a book based on her father Raj Kapoor.

The book Raj Kapoor is a smaller version of the 2002 published coffee table book Raj Kapoor Speaks.

It was released as yet another Kapoor, Ranbir, son of Rishi Kapoor, is scheduled to make his debut in Bollywood with the Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film, Saawariya, that is ready for release early next month.

"The book like Raj Kapoor's films are meant for the common man. It is for those people who want to know about the actor whom they love," said Nanda adding, the book that has been the result of her cumulative research that began a year after the death of her father in 1989.

Earlier in the day Nanda accompanied by Rishi Kapoor and his son Ranbir Kapoor presented the book to President Pratibha Patil.

"I felt proud of the fact that the first Lady accepted the book and gave us her blessings," said Rishi Kapoor, the second son of the legendary actor.

"I started research on this book in 1989, a year after my father's death and it was meant for posterity. The material was first published in Russia and it was a tribute by the Russians who loved my father and his work," said Nanda whose latest book spans Raj Kapoor's life as a person and a filmmaker.

It traces his early life, his contribution as an actor, his relationships with his children, his passion of filmmaking among others.

"All of us have been inspired greatly by our father. His contribution towards the Hindi film industry has been immense. Ritu has made us proud by putting together his life as seen in close quarters. There are lots of unknown facets about him which this book will bring to light," said Rishi Kapoor.
