Kalam, Mussaddi: Small films rule weekend cinema
A slew of small budget films such as 'Warning' and 'I am Kalam' hit the theatres this weekend.

New Delhi: Former President APJ Abdul Kalam is the inspiration behind 'I am Kalam' while actor Pankaj Kapoor reprises a popular television role in Chala Mussaddi Office Office as a slew of small budget films hit the theatres this weekend.

Pankaj Kapoor, television's self-effacing school master, is seeking a return to big screen with the quirky 'Chala Mussaddi Office Office' that has him confronting a curious problem as the 'common man' of the long-running, popular TV series.

Mussaddi Lal takes on the establishment, that dreaded antagonist, in Rajiv Mehra's big screen adaptation of the TV show that endeared itself to a middleclass audience for its humorous and honest approach towards tackling inherent corruption.

The cast from the show remains the same and Pankaj Kapur who plays Mussaddi Lal is joined by Deven Bhojani, Manoj Pawha, Hemant Pandey, Asawari Joshi and Farida Jalal in Office Office. Kapoor encounters a strange problem when his wife passes away untimely due to medical negligence and he leaves for pilgrimage.

Mussaddi comes home to a rude shock waiting for him – his power supply has been disconnected, his house has been mortgaged and he has been declared dead by the pension department of the government. How he deals with the crisis is the crux of the film.

Nila Madhab Panda's 'I Am Kalam' is a rags-to-riches story of an intelligent boy who is leading a near impossible campaign to turn around his destiny. As the name suggests, the film is inspired by the vision of former Indian President APJ Abdul Kalam.

The film by the Smile Foundation, produced by Santanu Mishra and starring Harsh Mayar, Gulshan Grover, Pitobash Tripathy, Husaan Saad, Beatrice Ordeix, Meena Mir and Sanjay Chauhan is an inspiring tale of grit, spirit and determination.

Gracy Singh's 'Milta Hai Chance By Chance', directed by Ramesh Modi is a romantic comedy that casts her as a radio jockey. The small budget film also casts Aslam Khan, Vishal Kaushik, Sana Govil and Seema Bedi.

Director Karan Razdan's film 'Warning' brings up the tail end of a lackluster weekend with a re-enactment of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

The film brings out the internal struggle of a would-be terrorist who gets killed on his way to the siege while resisting his comrades. But the film also has a supernatural twist with his child getting possessed by a spirit who tries to converse with the family.

The movie stars Ila Arun, Satish Kaushik, Bengali actress Rituparna Sengupta, Baby Jannat, Karan Razdan and Anupam Kher as a Muslim seer.
