HYDERABAD: The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) and Andhra Pradesh Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) have urged chief electoral officer Bhanwar Lal to intervene and order the state government to withdraw GO 2097 which stopped advertisements to the Sakshi Telugu newspaper and TV channel, saying that it is an attack on freedom of the press.A delegation led by IJU secretary-general Devulapalli Amar and APUWJ general secretary Y Narender Reddy submitted a representation to the CEO said that the action of the state government and the CBI smacked of political consideration, particularly when the election code for the ensuing by-polls for one Lok Sabha and 18 Assembly seats was in force.Stoppage of advertisements and freezing of bank accounts amounted to an attack of the freedom of the press and muzzling criticism of the government, particularly when the model code of election conduct was in force, the media delegation said."Further, the order is an attack on the source of livelihood of journalists and meant to disable them from bringing out the newspaper and broadcast news on the news channel, it said.
