Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir government is getting tough on its employees, who have been on strike for the past 10 days despite the imposition of the Essential Services Maintenance Act.
So far more than 150 agitating employees have been arrested in the last 10 days. They have been demanding the payment of arrears as per the 6th Pay Commission recommendations.
The state government has been claiming shortage of funds and has asked the Centre for rs 4,200 crore.
The strike was earlier supposed to end on Monday but has now been extended till April 19. Employees Joint Action Committee (EJAC) member Ravinder Kumar said that the decision was taken in view of the state government warning of terminating the services of employees who fail to report for duty on Monday.
Later on Monday, the employees will be holding a protest march to the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar after locking all government offices.

The 4.50 lakh employees also want an increase in retirement age from 58 to 60 years. The government has imposed ESMA against the striking employees on April 5.
