New Delhi: Film actress Jiah Khan committed suicide on June 3, 2013 in her Juhu apartment. Earlier, it was said that the actress was battling severe depression as she was out of work since three years. Later, it was revealed that she was in a strained relationship with Suraj Pancholi, son of Bollywood actor Aditya Pancholi, and couldn't cope up with Suraj's easygoing ways with other women.
The statements given in connection with Jiah's suicide kept changing. Here is a timeline of the events that followed Jiah Khan's suicide.
June 3: Bollywood actress Jiah Khan was found dead in her apartment in Juhu, Mumbai on late Monday night. The police suspect it is a case of suicide but no suicide note found so far. Jiah was found dead around 10.45 pm on Monday by her mother.
June 4: The police question the son of an actor and other people in the Jiah Khan suicide case. Jiah's post-mortem was conducted at the JJ Hospital. "Prima facie, last call was of an actor's son. So, definitely we will question him," ACP Vishwas Nagre Patil said.
June 4: The identities of all the people questioned by the police in Jiah Khan's suicide case revealed. Suraj Pancholi's name figures in the list.
June 5: Jiah's mother, Rabbiya Amin-Khan, an actress of yesteryears, told police that Jiah was very depressed since some time as she had no acting assignments in hand.
Jiah also appeared for screen tests for some Telugu and Tamil movies but was rejected, Rabbiya informed police.
According to her, feeling defeated to achieve her dreams of making it big in Bollywood, Jiah was on the verge of calling it quits and becoming a professional interior designer.
June 7: The police recovered a note purportedly written by the actress speaking about her disturbed relationship with her boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi on Friday, June 7.
June 8: "I want to request people to not try to make my son the villain. It's circumstances that played villain in Jiah's life. If that one moment when she took that drastic step had been averted, she'd still be alive," said Aditya Pancholi.
June 9: Jiah Khan's mother Rabbiya Khan said in a statement, "Some sections of the media and some film industry people are speculating that my daughter Jiah committed suicide because of depression related to her career. However the truth is that it happened only because of the trauma and the abuse she suffered at the hands of Suraj Pancholi and his father Aditya Pancholi."
June 10: Suraj Pancholi, son of actor Aditya Pancholi, gets arrested by the Mumbai Police in connection with the Jiah Khan suicide case. Suraj, who was in a relationship with Khan at the time of her death, was arrested under Section 306 of the IPC.
