Jharkhand Disom Party (JDP) called for a day-long state bandh on October 25 to press for its demands for having a domicile policy. In a statement issued in Jamshedpur on Thursday, JDP chief Salkhan Murmu said the incumbent coalition government in the state have also included the issue in its Common Minimum Programme.
Jharkhand High Court had asked the then government to implement the policy after re-defining it in 2005, he said claiming that every state in the country have their own domicile policy, barring Jharkhand.
The JDP leader claimed implementation of domicile policy could provide a stable government in the state. Criticising AJSU party chief Sudesh Mahto, a former Deputy Chief Minister of Jharkhand, for opposing the domicile policy, Murmu questioned the relevance of the demand for special state status to Jharkhand, if the educated unemployed adivasi and moolvasi youths were deprived of 3rd and 4th grade jobs in the state.
Murmu said AJSU party was betraying with its own youth cadres by opposing the policy. The tribal leader suggested that JMM should not use the issue to garner vote bank but take concrete steps to benefit two lakhs tribal youths in the form of providing employment in 3rd and 4th grade jobs.
Even Babulal Marandi-led Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (Prajatantrik) party should come forward in support of the policy as such a stand would certainly benefit the party in the next election, he opined.
