Jaya inaugurates slew of projects
Two flyovers, 25 bridges, roads, vet colleges, police stations and quarters, among those opened

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Tuesday inaugurated hundreds of projects across the State through video conferencing facility and presented vehicles and machinery to several departments.

These projects ranged from veterinary colleges, government office buildings, police stations, police housing units and Housing Board flats to bridges, flyovers and roads. She also issued appointment orders to 56 people under compassionate grounds in Aavin.

Among those opened on Tuesday include two flyovers in Gummidipoondi, 25 bridges and two bypass roads apart from six buildings of the Highways Department. She also inaugurated a rest house in Yelagiri. These projects were built at a cost of `176.5 crore.

The Chief Minister also inaugurated 1,036 housing units built by the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation at various locations. She also opened 29 police station buildings. Jayalalithaa also inaugurated four all-women police stations, offices for SPs and DSPs and a dormitory for police staff. These had been built at a cost of Rs 85.08 crore.

Also on the agenda for the inauguration ceremony held at the Secretariat were 924 housing units built by the Housing Board. Of these, 912 were meant for slum clearance purposes, costing Rs 26.46 crore, and 12 were quarters for government staff, built at  Rs 1.04 crore. She also inaugurated two veterinary colleges, hospitals and research institutes.

These have come up at O­ra­th­­­thunadu in Kanchee-puram district and Ramayyanpatti in Tirunelveli district. The two institutions have seen the enrolment of 80 students. These cost the exchequer Rs 28.93 crore.

Jayalalithaa also handed over 29 jeeps to the Animal Husbandry Department to enable wider coverage of veterinary services.

She also handed over 19 jeeps and 32 mobile fish vending vehicles to the Fisheries Department.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by the ministers of the respective departments and their secretaries, apart from Chief Secretary Debendranath Sarangi.
