Janaki Nair passes away

PALAKKAD: Janaki Nair, 87, of Palat House, Ottappalam, and daughter of the late K P S Menon (senior) died at a private hospital in Thrissur on Sunday.She was the chairperson of Chettur Sankaran Nair Cultural Trust and vice-president of Chettur Sankaran Nair Foundation.She was the elder sister of first foreign secretary K P S Menon (junior). Parvathy Thampy, Malathi Nair and Malini Menon are her other siblings.Former Foreign Secretary Sivasankara Menon is her nephew. Her husband Rajashekharan Nair had pre-deceased her. She is survived by children Bharathi Nair (Chennai), Sankaran Nair (US), Govindan Nair (New Delhi) and Saraswati Nair.She was active in public forums and was the former president of Kasturba Balika Bhavan and founder vice-president of Karuna Women’s Hostel, which was set up by former President K R Narayanan.Janaki Nair was the one who interacted with the public on behalf of the Palat House. She had also served as the president of the Ottappalam Mahila Samajam. The cremation will be held at the Santhi Theeram on the banks of the Bharathapuzha in Shoranur on Monday.
