New Delhi: Photography for a long time has been a medium of documentation and archiving moments in history and the ultimate tool for realism in art.
In the last few years, photography has become a medium of self-expression as well. Photographers today are more experimental and daring with their subject and treatment of one’s work. This has bridged the gap between art and photography as separate mediums.
In Vision Beyond, a photography show in the Capital, a few of the photographers working towards taking photography to a new level will showcase their capacity to experiment and reinterpret the medium beyond the cliched image of photography.
The expanse of photographic canvas in the exhibition that includes a selection of works by nine of India’s happening shutter bugs brings together a varied and interesting collage of art photography as it is practiced today.
The artists in the show include some who started as commercial photographers, others who trained initially as designers and some others who also work as professional artists.
They come from across the country to represent different sensitivities, cultural backgrounds, age groups and genders and include Dinesh Khanna, Malkiat Singh, Nakshatar Lather, Naresh Singh, Parthiv Shah, Pradeep Das Gupta, Saadiya Kochar, Sandeep Biswas and Shalini Saran.
The exhibition opens on April 9 and is on till April 17 at Shridharani Gallery at Triveni Kala Sangam, Tansen Marg in the Capital. From April 18 to April 25, the exhibition will continue at the Art Indus Gallery at Santushti Shopping Arcade in Chanakyapuri in New Delhi.
