Berlin: Iran might have been the first team to be eliminated from the 2006 World Cup, but that has not stopped its fans from thinking Ali Karimi will win the Golden Shoe.
Around 136,000, that is 38 per cent of the total vote, on the FIFA website have selected Karimi as the player most likely to be the leading goal-scorer in the tournament.
Karimi has his work cut out, considering he has not scored as yet and has only one more game to move ahead from the rest of the contenders.
Iran had lost to Mexico 1-3 in the first round and 0-2 to Portugal in the second round and will face Angola in the Group D on Wednesday.
So far 3,64,695 votes have been cast.
