New Delhi: Intex unveiled the prototype of its first octa-core smartphone. Intex says, the phone, which is yet to be named, will be launched early January next year at around Rs 20,000.

Running Android 4.2.2, the phone will come equipped with a MediaTek Octa-core chipset clocked at 1.7GHz. "Unlike existing octa-core solutions in the market, which can only activate half of their CPU cores at once, MediaTek True Octa-Core allows for all eight of its cores to run simultaneously. Each of the eight CPU cores is capable of clock speeds up to 2GHz," said Finbarr Moynihan, General Manager, International Sales and Marketing, MediaTek.

The phone will come with a 6-inch HD IPS display and will be 7mm thick. It will come in two variants -16GB and 32GB. The phone is likely to come with a 5 megapixel camera.
