Inefficient Teachers in Bihar to be Removed Within a Month, Says Nitish Kumar
At least five thousand teachers fall in this category as teacher unions have already started opposing this decision.

Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, while reviewing the education department, directed officials on Thursday to prepare a list of non- performing teachers and forcefully retire them within a month.

The state government has also decided to induct guest teachers in High Schools instead of recruiting new teachers.

Chief Secretary Anjani Kumar Singh informed decisions taken by the CM during the meeting. Teachers who have failed to clear Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) in three attempts would also be relieved.

At least five thousand teachers fall in this category as teacher unions have already started opposing this decision. Chairman of secondary school teachers union, Kedar Singh, said that the worst affected would be those who have been hired on contract. Singh threatened to start agitation against the decision to give Compulsory retirement to 'inefficient' teachers.

After effecting transfers of 44 IPS officers, this is the second big decision by Nitish Kumar since he formed a new government with the help of BJP.

Anjani Kumar Singh said that the CM was unhappy over very poor results in Intermediate and Matric examinations. The Chief Minister has directed the officials to identify such schools and take remedial steps to increase pass percentage.

The issue of hygiene in schools was also discussed and it was decided that students will take care of cleanliness of toilets and classrooms. "A committee of students would be formed and a Safai Mantri among them will be selected to lead the cleanliness drive," said Anjani Kumar Singh.

The chief secretary said that books will be distributed to the students till class eighth by September.
