Hyderabad: The bodies of two Indian students who were shot dead by unidentified people at Louisiana State University in the US last week were cremated in their hometowns in Andhra Pradesh Sunday.

Kiran Kumar Allam's last rites were performed in Manchiryal in Adilabad district while his friend Chandrasekhar Reddy Komma was cremated in Kurnool.

Their bodies were flown in from the US in the early hours of Sunday and were taken to their respective native places, around 300 km from here.

Large number of friends and local people, besides the family members of the dead students attended the funeral.

Kurnool MP Kotla Suryaprakash Reddy and other leaders paid their last respects to Chandrasekhar Reddy. Talking to reporters, the MP demanded that the central government take necessary steps to ensure security of Indian students in the US.

Both doctorate students were found shot dead inside an apartment at the Edward Gay complex Thursday night.

Investigations are on and the police have released the sketches of two men suspected in the killings.

Police said the miscreants had entered Kumar's apartment and shot both the students.

Kiran Kumar, 33, who was studying for doctorate in chemistry, was to complete his studies next year. He was the only son of eminent writer Allam Rajaiah.

It was Kumar's pregnant wife, Swapna, who found the bodies and called the police. The two had married about two years ago.

Chandrasekhara Reddy, 31, who was doing doctorate in biochemistry, was the son of Sambashiva Reddy, a retired forest officer.

He had married Kalpana only nine months ago and she is three months pregnant.
