Indian men's recurve team qualifies 2nd in World Archery
Indian men's recurve team qualified an impressive second for the elimination round on the second day of the World Archery Championships at Belek in Turkey.

New Delhi: Indian men's recurve team qualified an impressive second for the elimination round after Jayanta Talukdar and Tarundeep Rai finished 15th and 16th in the individual qualification round on the second day of the World Archery Championships at Belek in Turkey Tuesday.

Talukdar and Rai shot 1331 and 1330 respectively from 144 arrows while the third Indian in the fray, Kapil accumulated 1322 points to end the men's recurve individual event qualification round at 22nd at the Papillion Sports Center.

The Indian trio aggregated 3983 while Korea whose three archers finished at the top three spots in the individual qualification round were way ahead with 4057 points in total at the top spot in the team event.

In the recurve mixed team event, India were at fifth spot with 2676 points while Korea were on top with 2733. Yesterday, Deepika Kumari qualified 10th for the main elimination round of the women's individual recurve event with a total of 1345 points from 144 arrows in the qualifying event which was topped by Bo Bae Ki of Korea (1376 points).

Deepika's compatriots Dola Banerjee finished at 49th on 1300 points while comeback woman Chekrovolu Swuro was 71st on 1283 points. The Indian women's trio had qualified 12th. In women's individual compound qualifying event, Jyothi Surekha Vennam had finished sixth with 684 points from 72 arrows while compatriots Trisha Deb (680) and Jhano Hansdah (645) were 15th and 69th respectively.

The Indian trio had qualified 10th in the women's compound team event with 2009 points.

In men's individual compound qualifying event, Abhishek Verma was the highest-ranked Indian at 31st with 698 points from 72 arrows. Rajat Chauhan (693) and Sandeep Kumar (691) were 46th and 56th respectively. India had finished 13th in the men's team compound qualifying event at 13th with 2082 points.

The elimination round of individual events in recurve and compound of both men and women begin tomorrow. The elimination round of team events begin on Thursday.
