CHENNAI: The mini auditorium at the Narada Gana Sabha was almost filled with friends, relatives and well-wishers of the dancers of the day, Alekya Kumari and Harini. The students of Sri Varnisa Kalalaya treated the gathering to their Bharatanatyam performance, which was no less of well-versed dancers. The programme, organised by the Karthik Fine Arts, began with Mallari raga in Gambira Nattai thala. However, the highlight of the evening, though, was the Aananda Thandavam. The dancers as Lord Shiva and Parvathi changed the stage into Kailash, the abode of the divine couple, and brought the essence of Siva Thandavam to the hall. A spiritual experience it was. The last piece of the evening, Thillana in Ragamalika and Adi thala, was indeed a piece to showcase what they learnt from their guru Samyuktha Varadharajan. The girls were in perfect unison and equilibrium throughout the evening showcasing their prowess in a variety of moves and different gestures. The live rendition of songs were perfectly done by Premalatha and Malini Kumar and they were supported well by Naagai Narayanan on percussion, KR Suresh on violin and Om Karnath on keyboard.
