THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Eight long days, when the city turned synonymous with cinema. The day that bids adieu to the entire set of activities leaves some memories to be carried back home.It was difficult for many people to say goodbye to their friends. Sinila S was pondering over how to say goodbye to the new acquaintances she made from here. “I got a lot many friends from here. I can’t think of saying goodbye to all. Definitely, we will meet again and maintain the friendship,” she said.Other than the frantic rush to watch the maximum number of films, many who come here build strong bonds of friendship expected to last long. Priyanka C Nair is excited by the 16th edition of the IFFK. For this techie-turned- journalism student, the festival was an exposure to the world of compering and hospitality.It was just for fun that this girl along with her friends had tried for a novel experience. “Of course, it was a great experience. It really gave me lot many chances to talk with several personalities and understand how the IFFK works. Hope, it can also provide several openings in future,” she said. For serious cine-goers, it was definitely a great opportunity to add to their knowledge on cinema. Ananthakrishnan B, an MPhil student of Development Studies in the MG University, learnt a lot from the fare at the film festival. The youth, hailing from Kollam, is pursuing his thesis on the topic ‘Film and development.’“The film packages this time included many movies dealing with the contemporary problems in various societies. It was a great learning experience,’’ he said.While all were engaged in exchanging last-minute greetings, from one corner of the Kairali theatre was heard the song ‘Rang de Basanthi’. A group of boys appeared on the scene tapping their feet in tune with the music. The entire attention of delegates and media personnel on the foyer of the theatre fell on them.Though everyone stood perplexed watching the state of affairs, a banner was unfurled in front the dancing team announcing ‘Dhwani’, the cultural event to be hosted by the College of Engineering Trivandrum in the city from January 12 to 15.The boys had found that this was the best occasion to promote the event! The enthusiasm of the crowd was evident on the concluding day of the festival too. The competition film, ‘The Colours of the Mountain’ screened on the closing day was shown to a packed audience in the morning.
