Panaji: The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) 2011 will be a milestone for the 3D cinemas as these new-generation films would be curated in a special section for the first time in any of the Indian film festivals.
IFFI Director Shankar Mohan told reporters on Saturday that there is lot of 3D explosion globally and that's why IFFI would devote a separate section for films based on the new technology.
The 1000-seater auditorium at Kala Academy, one of the venues for the festival, has been specially designed to showcase 3D films though it will also screen other films at the festival.
Mohan said that it would be one of its kind showcasing the changing technological advances in Cinema through 3D technology.
The section will have the likes of 'The Cave of Forgotten Dreams' by Werner Herzog, 'Pina' by Wim Wenders and other half a dozen films.
The IFFI Director said that with the 2D technology being phased out, filmmakers are experimenting with 3D, which gives more quality viewing experience for the viewers.
The film festival that would take place here from November 23 to December 3, will also have public screening of the movies, the practice that was discontinued since last couple of years.
The organisers said that there would be special screening of the films at Campal ground in Panaji city for the general public.
