HYDERABAD: Faced with bureaucrats getting into trouble after being used as the cat's paw by politicians, the IAS Officers' Association is advising officers not to sign on GOs unless they clearly state the recommendation of the relevant minister. If they don't want to be held accountable for scams further on, they must insist that government orders (GOs) clearly state the rationale for decision supplied by mininsters, the association says.
The IAS lobby has taken this stance in the context of the CBI's investigation of the conduct of several officers in scams relating to the mining and property development in recent weeks. While making no statement of support for the likes of V Srilakshmi, B P Acharya and V D Rajagopa- all suspects in highprofile scams- the IAS Officers' Association has decided to set up a small committee of bureaucrats to make recommendations to the administration to ensure more transparency and keep officers out of harm's way. The committee will study the issues, including the existing rules, before submitting proposals to the government.

Speaking to Express, IAS Officers Association president S Bhale Rao said the committee will study the practices followed by bureaucracies at the Centre and in other states before preparing a report.
